Submission

JAEPP accepts research articles and literature reviews in the areas of accounting, ethics, and public policy. We consider submissions from different academic areas which overlap with the above-mentioned disciplines.

  • All articles must be in English and consist of a title, abstract, keywords, body of the paper, conclusion, and list of references.
  • Recommended article length is 7-20 pages.
  • Authors should submit their manuscripts via e-mail at [email protected] or using our OJS submission system.

JAEPP Peer-Review Process

Currently, JAEPP uses a single-blind peer review system: The authors are not aware of the names of the reviewers but not vice versa.

Reviewers

Reviewers are scholars with demonstrable expertise in the fields and areas covered by the JAEPP.

Reviewers are expected to carry out peer-review duties for JAEPP on a voluntary basis and in accordance with the JAEPP guidelines and template. The Publisher, and the editor-in-chief (EIC) of JAEPP gratefully acknowledge their respective contributions. The review reports carried out for JAEPP are copyright of the Publisher

 Check of conformity of submissions

The Editor-in-chief, EiC, makes a first check of conformity of submitted manuscripts with the Journal policy, aims and scope, and submission guidelines. The editorial staff uses "Antiplagiarism.net"  software to verify the originality of manuscripts submitted to the Journal.

Assigning reviewers

The Editor-in-chief hands each manuscript accepted for review to at least two reviewers from the JAEPP`s list of reviewers. In some cases, the advice of a third reviewer may be sought.

Reviewer’s task

The Reviewer shall confirm acceptance of the task within 5 days of receipt of the invitation from the EiC. If she/he cannot perform the assigned task the EiC will contact another reviewer.

For the evaluation of the assigned manuscript, the Reviewer is required to use the standard JAEPP Review Form designed for that purpose. Each reviewer has his/her own profile in the Open Journal System, OJS. Once logged onto the system, the Reviewer will have two options. She/he can complete the online version of the Review Form and submit it online. Alternatively, the Reviewer can download a version of the review form complete it, and upload it to the OJS platform for the attention of the Editor-in-chief, EiC.

The possible recommendations that the reviewer can make (to the Editor-in-chief, EiC) are the following:

I) “Accept Submission with no revision”: the manuscript is acceptable as submitted.

II) “Minor Revision”: the manuscript requires minor changes before it can be published.

III) “Major Revision”: the manuscript needs major changes and the revised version will undergo a second and final round of review.

IV) “Reject": the manuscript should not be published in the Journal.

Reviewers shall submit their reports to the JAEPP Editorial Office within 2 weeks of receipt of the manuscript for review. The OJS will be sending automatic reminders upon the expiration of the deadline.

Before submitting their reports, reviewers should ensure that all marked fields of the standard Review Form are duly completed.

Final decision and revision work follow-up

The Editor-in-chief, EiC is responsible for making the final editorial decision. She/he will prepare a decision letter based on the comments of the reviewers which will be sent by email to the corresponding author within 7 days of receipt of the review reports.

The four possible editorial decisions, as foreseen in the OJS platform (online system), are the following:

I) “Accept Submission": acceptance of the manuscript as it stands.

II) "Revisions Required": acceptance of the manuscript after minor revisions.

III) "Resubmit for Review": the manuscript needs major changes and a second and final round of review will be required for the revised version.

IV) "Decline Submission": rejection of the manuscript as it stands.

The EiC's decision is final. Decision II) and Decision III) require revision work. In both cases, the EiC will send the authors comments/suggestions for the author(s) from the reviewers and any annotated copies of the original manuscript. The EiC can add her/his own comments/suggestions. The EiC will ask the author(s) that they make the requested revision or give their reasons for not accepting to do so.

Authors should complete the requested revisions and submit a revised version of their manuscript and a report indicating the changes made in light of the suggestions included in the editorial decision letter. They should do so within 14 days (in cases of a “Revisions Required” editorial decision) and 21 days (in cases of a “Resubmit for Review” editorial decision) of being asked to do so; or within the time indicated in the editorial decision letter. Otherwise, they could risk their article being rejected or assigned to a later edition. They can always ask for an extension if they need additional time to complete their revisions.

The revised version, along with the report indicating the changes made, should be sent to the EiC. The two external reviewers may also be involved if deemed appropriate, particularly in the case of a “Resubmit for Review” decision.

Within 7 days, the EiC should decide whether to recommend “Acceptance” or “Rejection” and then she/he should send her/his recommendation to the EiC.

Timeline

It is our intention to make the initial screen within 5 days of the submission and the first decision on non-reviewed manuscripts within 21 days of submission. However, due to reasons beyond our control, the whole process (initial screening and peer review) can take longer time to be completed. If you have not heard from the Editorial Office within the above timeframe, please send an inquiry to the Editorial Office.

Anti-Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism is not acceptable in the JAEPP submissions and publications. After the submission, authors are requested to declare the originality of their work by properly citing, re-using, or copying previous publications. If plagiarism is detected during the peer review process, the manuscript will be rejected. If plagiarism is detected after publication, the publisher has the right to issue an erratum/corrigendum or retract the paper.

The JAEPP Editorial Office scans the content of the papers for plagiarism using specialized software (Antiplagiarism.net).

Proofreading

At JAEPP, we consider the language aspect of the papers of particular relevance. Therefore, a fluent language speaker assesses the language aspect of each paper. If decided proofreading is mandatory and may also be requested after the peer review.

The JAEPP editorial office does not offer proofreading services.

Conflict of Interest

Examples of potential conflicts of interest include but are not limited to financial interests (such as membership, employment, consultancies, stocks/shares ownership, honoraria, grants or other funding, paid expert testimonies, and patent-licensing arrangements) and non-financial interests (such as personal or professional relationships, affiliations, personal beliefs). The authors, reviewers, and editors should follow the ICMJE standards.

Submissions from JAEPP editors and reviewers:

Submissions from members of the JAEPP editorial board and reviewers will be handled as regular submissions without special treatment. All editorial board members have been informed that all necessary information regarding the progress of the peer review can be obtained from the editorial office only. Editors and reviewers should not communicate directly with the authors/reviewers and that is especially important if a member of the editorial board is among the authors. Members of the editorial office are allowed to submit their papers to JAEPP. Submissions will be assigned to at least two reviewers. The submitting Editor/Board member will have no involvement in the peer-review process. Their affiliation with the journal has to be disclosed in the manuscript`s ethical statements. The reviewers of these manuscripts will also be notified not to provide any special treatment during the peer review process.
